Introducing the PRUSA CORE One

Prusa Research has once again raised the bar in 3D printing innovation with the unveiling of the Prusa CORE One at Formnext 2024. With a groundbreaking design and advanced features, the CORE One redefines the standards for desktop 3D printing. Here's everything you need to know about this exciting new release.

A New Design Philosophy

The Prusa CORE One marks a departure from the open-frame design seen in Prusa's earlier desktop printers, such as the MK series. While open-frame printers remain popular for materials like PLA and PETG, the CORE One brings a fresh approach with its fully enclosed chamber and CoreXY kinematic system.

“Open-frame 3D printers are still an excellent choice for many uses, such as printing the most commonly used materials like PLA and PETG,” says Josef Prusa, CEO of Prusa Research. However, the CORE One is purpose-built for printing advanced materials that benefit from precise environmental control, while still maintaining compatibility with traditional filaments like PLA and PETG.

CoreXY Kinematics and Enhanced Build Volume

One of the standout features of the CORE One is its CoreXY kinematic system, which allows for faster printing speeds and a more compact design. Despite being 30% smaller than the MK4S, the CORE One offers a 30% larger build volume, making it both space-efficient and highly functional.

This shift to CoreXY also ensures smoother motion and improved reliability, qualities that are essential for professional and enthusiast users alike.

Advanced Features for Professional Performance

The CORE One is engineered with professionals in mind. Its fully enclosed chamber and active temperature control (up to 55 °C) provide an ideal environment for printing advanced materials like ABS, ASA, and nylon, which require controlled conditions to prevent warping and achieve optimal results.

Prusa emphasizes the importance of this design, pointing out the irony of enclosed printers being used with their doors open for materials like PLA and PETG. The CORE One is designed to handle these materials effectively without compromising the benefits of an enclosed chamber.

Safety First

Safety is a key focus of the CORE One. The printer is equipped with a door sensor, ensuring secure operation during prints. This feature reflects Prusa’s commitment to creating user-friendly and safe 3D printing solutions for both beginners and experienced users.

Built to Last, Built to Modify

True to Prusa Research's philosophy, the CORE One is built to be robust, reliable, and long-lasting. Every aspect of the printer is designed with the user in mind. “Users can still disassemble it with just a screwdriver. Nothing is glued or welded,” explains Josef Prusa.

This modular approach makes it easy for users to perform maintenance, upgrades, and modifications—a hallmark of Prusa printers that enthusiasts have come to love.

Availability and Pricing

The first units of the Prusa CORE One are set to ship in January 2025, with pre-orders now open on Prusa3D.com.

Why the Prusa CORE One Stands Out

The Prusa CORE One combines the best of innovation, reliability, and user-centered design. With its compact size, enhanced build volume, and advanced features, it’s ideal for professionals, hobbyists, and educators alike.

As Josef Prusa summarizes:

“While the CORE One may look different, it still adheres to our philosophy—it’s robust, reliable, and built to last for years.”

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach the shipping date, and get ready to experience the future of 3D printing with the Prusa CORE One!
